In addition, you should always:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Keep boat and electronic equipment in good working condition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Obtain weather reports before leaving.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be conscious of changes in the weather and the limitations of your boat.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Know your boat\u2019s fuel consumption and carry sufficient fuel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check the chart for course, distance, aids to navigation, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Observe the rules of the road and extend to others the courtesy you would like to receive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Never overload your boat.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have readily accessible approved lifesaving device for each person on board regardless of the vessel\u2019s size.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Periodically check the pressure indicator on fire extinguisher and dates on distress signals to insure they are operative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carry at least one, preferably two, anchors with ample line.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conserve your signals until you are sure of being detected.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wait until you see or hear a vessel or aircraft before using \u201cone time\u201d signals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stay with the boat if safe to do so &#8211; a boat is easier to spot than a swimmer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A throwing device should always be ready and available.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remember, you are morally and legally responsible for the lives and wellbeing of all aboard your vessel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepare a float plan and leave with a responsible person.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Every boat should have a safety inspection annually by the Coast Guard Auxiliary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As a member of the Calusa Cruise Club, you promised to attend and pass a Coast Guard or Power Squadron basic boating course.
