Purpose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Calusa Cruise Club website contains public pages, member-only pages, and administrative tools. What you see depends on whether you are logged in and what privileges have been assigned to your account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This article explains the basic navigation used throughout the site so you can quickly find the information or function you need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Main Website Menu<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The main navigation menu appears near the top of the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It provides access to the major areas of the site, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Home<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • About Us<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Club information<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Cruises and events<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Member resources<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Contact information<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Other public pages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The exact choices may change as the website evolves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Some menu items may contain additional choices. On a desktop computer, moving your pointer over one of these items may display a submenu. On a phone or tablet, you may need to tap the menu item or an arrow beside it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Members Only Area<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    After you log in, additional member-only choices may become available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Members Only<\/strong> page acts as a central starting point for member resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Depending on your privileges, it may contain links or dashboard cards for features such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Member Directory<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Cruises and events<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Club documents<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Photo galleries<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • How-To articles<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Other member resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Users with additional privileges may also see administrative functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      If another member sees an option that you do not see, that does not necessarily indicate a problem. Access is controlled by user privileges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Using Dashboard Cards and Buttons<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Some website pages use buttons or dashboard cards as shortcuts to commonly used functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      A dashboard card typically contains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      • A title<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • A short description<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • A button or clickable area<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Member Directory<\/strong>
        Find contact information for active club members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Calendar<\/strong>
        View upcoming cruises and club activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        How-To Library<\/strong>
        Read instructions for using the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Select the button or card to open that feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        The WordPress Administration Area<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        Authorized users may also have access to the WordPress administration area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        This area is different from the public-facing website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        It is normally used for tasks such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        • Editing pages<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Managing users<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Maintaining member records<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Generating reports<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Managing the directory booklet<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Website administration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          You may hear this area referred to as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \n
          • WordPress Admin<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Admin Area<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Dashboard<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Back End<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            These terms generally refer to the same administrative part of the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Opening the WordPress Dashboard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            If your account has administrative privileges, log into the website and open the WordPress Dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The Dashboard contains a menu along the left side of the screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The exact menu choices depend on your privileges and the plugins installed on the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            You may see items such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              \n
            • Dashboard<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Pages<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Media<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Users<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Members<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Reports<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Tools<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Settings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

              Not every authorized user will see every option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              The Left-Hand Administration Menu<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

              The left-hand menu is the primary navigation system in the WordPress administration area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              Selecting a menu item may either open a page directly or reveal a submenu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              For example, selecting Pages<\/strong> may display choices such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              • All Pages<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • Add New Page<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                A custom club function may have its own submenu containing reports or management tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                The WordPress Toolbar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

                When you are logged in, a toolbar may appear across the top of the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                Depending on your privileges, this toolbar can provide shortcuts to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  \n
                • The WordPress Dashboard<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • Edit the page you are currently viewing<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • Add new content<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • View your user account<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                • Log out<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                  The toolbar is only visible to logged-in users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  Editing a Website Page<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

                  Users with permission to edit website content may see an Edit Page<\/strong> option while viewing a page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  Selecting it opens that page in the WordPress editor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  Be careful to distinguish between:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  Viewing the page<\/strong>
                  This shows what website visitors see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  Editing the page<\/strong>
                  This allows authorized users to change its content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  Always verify which mode you are in before making changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  Using the Block Editor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

                  Most website pages are edited with the WordPress Block Editor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                  Content is organized into blocks such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    \n
                  • Paragraph<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Heading<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Image<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Buttons<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Columns<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Group<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • List<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  • Table<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                    Each block can be selected and edited independently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    Some club functions may also provide their own custom blocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    For example, a plugin may provide a special block used to place a particular feature on a page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    List View<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

                    When editing a page, List View<\/strong> can be especially helpful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    List View shows the structure of the page as a hierarchy of blocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                    Group\n    Heading\n    Paragraph\n    Columns\n        Column\n            Button\n        Column\n            Button<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
                    This makes it much easier to select the correct Group, Column, or other container when a page contains several nested blocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                    Using List View is often easier than trying to click the exact block directly on the page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                    Saving Your Changes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                    When editing a page, changes are not normally visible to visitors until you save them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                    Depending on the situation, WordPress may display:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                      \n
                    • Save<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                    • Update<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                    • Publish<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
                      For an existing page, you will usually select Update<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                      After updating a page, view the public version of the page to make sure it looks the way you intended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                      Opening Links in a New Tab<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                      When working in the administration area, it can be useful to keep the editor open while viewing the website in another browser tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                      For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                        \n
                      • One tab: Edit the Members Only page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      • Another tab: View the Members Only page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
                        After making a change, update the page and refresh the second tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                        This provides a quick way to check your work without repeatedly leaving the editor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                        Browser Back Button<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                        Use the browser’s Back button carefully while editing WordPress pages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                        If you have made changes that have not been saved, navigating away from the editor may cause you to lose those changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                        When in doubt, select Update<\/strong> or Save<\/strong> before leaving the page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                        Mobile Navigation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                        The website may look different on a phone or tablet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                        On smaller screens:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                          \n
                        • The main menu may be represented by a menu icon.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                        • Dashboard cards may stack vertically.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                        • Columns may appear as a single column.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                        • Some administrative screens may require horizontal scrolling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
                          This is normal responsive behavior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                          The website is designed to rearrange content so it remains usable on different screen sizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                          Finding a Feature You Cannot Locate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                          If you cannot find a feature:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                            \n
                          1. Make sure you are logged in.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          2. Check the Members Only page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          3. Check the WordPress administration menu if you have administrative privileges.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          4. Review CCC-002 \u2013 Understanding User Roles and Privileges<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          5. Contact the Website Administrator if the feature should be available to you.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
                            Common Problems<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                            I do not see the Members Only options.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
                            Make sure you are logged in. If you are logged in and still cannot see them, your account privileges may need to be reviewed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                            I cannot find an administration menu mentioned in an article.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
                            You may not have the required privileges, or the function may be located under a submenu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                            I changed a page but the website still shows the old version.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
                            Make sure you selected Update<\/strong>, then refresh the page in your browser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                            I cannot select the correct block while editing a page.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
                            Open List View<\/strong> and select the block from the page structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
                            The page looks different on my phone.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
                            This is usually normal. The website automatically rearranges content for smaller screens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
